Where to find announcements concerning Japanese yen?
I realized that there was great unusual movement in the GBP / JPY currency pair at the end of in early October '08 November '08. I looked in the currency of factory for an explanation, but found nothing to explain what kind of movement. My question is twofold: 1) What caused great movement on this market now? 2) As is Forex factory, where I can find more heads up about what caused these huge (mostly bass) runs?
Most believe that the yen's recent strength is caused by the yen used as "carry trade" for the purchase of foreign securities. Since interest rates in Japan has been low and investment in Japanese equities have shown poor results in recent years, investors had taken prior yen to invest abroad. As markets have deteriorated, investors have sold foreign securities and repaid their loans causing foreign currency for buying and selling yen, driving the yen and foreign currencies down. A situation similar (low interest rates in a fair and easy money) seems to have happened with the U.S. dollar but not to the same extent.
