What Are Forex Pips?

A pip is basically the smallest decimal place in your particular trading package that gives a definition of how much one currency is worth compared to another currency. Pips measure the behavior (movement) of a particular currency pair that will take over specific time duration. Keep in mind that they are not junks of information. For instance, if the pair starts its day at 1.0000 and ends at 1.0010, there will be a pip movement of 10 in the plus (positive) direction.

Forex pips should not be mistaken as a technical term or even mathematical term. It is just a term that shows the movement of the currency pair.

Another point to take note is that Forex pips do now follow a specific conversion into real money. The amount of money that you are able to profit from a successful trade and the amount of money that you may lose on unsuccessful trade relies on pip distances, pip spreads as well as pip movements.
